Sprout: the plantable pencil

I’m all about online shopping, and I’m very excited about my latest purchase.

Sprout is an innovative new product, created by Democratech, a group of MIT product designers and mechanical engineers. Sprout pencils have seeds in the stubs of the pencils, so when you can’t sharpen or use your pencil anymore, you simply plant the pencil, and depending on its seed, a flower or herb will sprout.

After the wooden pencil has been used, the seed capsule within the pencil is activated with water and germination begins. The seeds then sprout within a week and voila! Your pencil is now a seed.

There are many different types of Sprout pencils, with herbs including basil, calendula, cherry tomato, cilantro, dill, marigold, mint, parsley, sage, rosemary, thyme, and flowers including baby’s breath, bachelor’s buttons, black-eyed Susan, cosmos, heart’s delight, kiss-me-over-the-garden-gate, lavender, love-lies-bleeding, and more!

If you’re interested in learning more about Sprout, HERE is Democratech’s website, and HERE is the Amazon link to order the pencils!

I think this idea is so creative, innovative, and useful! I personally don’t like using nonmechanical pencils, just because they seem to have little utility once you’re done sharpening them, but this gives the pencils a great chance at a better afterlife hehe.

Check back in two weeks and I’ll update with the progress of my pencils 🙂

Happy Sunday and have a great, sustainable week everyone!
