Executive Board 2018-2019
Hi, my name is Sam! As a fourth year who is super passionate about sustainability, I love that Green Grounds enables me to make a noticeable difference at UVA. In fact, Green Grounds is where I first discovered my interest in sustainability and it has completely shaped my experience at UVA. I am on the Green Engagements Committee, which focuses on education and outreach for the UVA community. My favorite memories of Green Grounds include planning the Green Alumni Conversations event in 2016, hosting our SustainaPitch Night in 2018, and creating a ‘Skip the Straw’ campaign to educate UVA students.
I’m a 4th year studying biology major, global sustainability minor. Also a 4+1 MPH student and interested in environmental public health issues. I love working in Sustainaspace to promote and design better green spaces since I love being outdoors and hiking!
Hi! My name is Cara and I am a 5th year at UVA in the accelerated Master’s of Public Policy program in the Batten School. I majored in Economics and Global Public Health as an undergrad and I’ve always been very interested in sustainability and the environment, especially in how they relate to health. I’m currently the treasurer of Green Grounds and I work in the Green Corner Consulting committee, which helps make restaurants on the Corner more sustainable.
My name is Sarah Carter and I am a third-year majoring in Global Development Studies, Middle Eastern Studies, and minoring in Global Sustainability. I joined Green Grounds in the Spring semester of my first year, and I became deeply interested in the urban planning aspect of the SustainaSpace committee. Exec saw my passion for sustainability and I was able to move into leadership positions. I am now the Co-chair for SustainaSpace Committee and Secretary for Green Grounds, both of which have helped me develop skills that I will use later in my profession. I am so grateful for the knowledge, friendships, and invaluable resources that this organization has given me over the past two years, and I am even more excited for the next two.
PR & Outreach
Hi I’m Carson, the Public Relations and Outreach chair for Green Grounds. I’m a second year and Charlottesville native majoring in Environmental Science and Biology. I’m in the Sustaina-space committee and have been involved with projects like the Hike for Health and the Green Map. Outside of school, I enjoy cool nature things like bird watching and hiking.
Hi I’m Tanisha, a third-year majoring in Commerce! I love Green Grounds because it provides people with an outlet to lead sustainability related projects and encourages a passion to helping our environment in all sorts of ways. Currently, I am on the SustainaSpace committee, through which I’ve got to meet some amazing people and participate in impactful projects. The project that I enjoyed working on the most is organizing the bi-annual Hike for Health, a hike on a local trail with the purpose of building mindfulness as a group!
